Games of the Year 2024

Well, it’s that time again!

Getting to it a little late this year, I’ve been busy lately. Have been back at work, and trying to figure out some logistics around improvements to my apartment. Still muddling through that, but I wanted to take some time and reflect on the year of games, as is my custom. Even though, like, I do not actually write about games at any other time of the year on this blog. And, indeed, have not updated at all for the past month or so!

Out Sick

Hey all.

No Moby Dick this week, as I have been felled by a terrible illness. Nah, I’ve got a cold, but it’s prrrrrrobably COVID? I don’t know, I ran out tests ages ago and don’t know where I could even buy one these days. And, in any case, I don’t want to leave the house, due to the aforemenetioned illness. Kind of a catch-22 of the “post”-pandemic era, huh.

Chapter 114: The Gilder

Haha, that’s me!

Hoo boy, I had an exhausting week. Had a dentist appointment, went to a couple of podcast live shows, and had an endodontist appointment (where nothing actually happened). Turns out I’ve got a tooth that is all messed up and needs a root canal, not looking forward to that… except I kind of am, because it’s starting to ache more and more. Ugh. What a pain. Literally, in this case. But I won’t let that keep me from my whale-related responsibilities!

Game of the Year 2022

Ahhh, it’s that time again.

This was a weird year for me, in terms of games. There was the release of something that I had been looking forward to for a long time, but it didn’t really hit for me. I spent the first half of the year paralyzed with fear and absorbed in old favorites, and the latter half too busy to get into anything new. So, there’s not a lot to go on here, really. But, I’ve still got Some Thoughts on a few things.

I’m Back!

[ [ [ \( ̄︶ ̄*\)) ] ] ]

It’s been a while! I’m sorry for not posting to this blog for, oh, a little over one entire calendar year. It kind of slipped my mind, and I’ve been busy with other things in my life. But really, that’s not an excuse, I still want to finish my Moby Dick project, and also keep writing as a creative exercise. Get these ideas out of my head and onto the page, that sort of thing.buny

Chapter 74: The Sperm Whale’s Head—Contrasted View

Okay, this may be a little less philosophical than I remembered.

But, I will find a way to make it so, in my particular way. Not to say that Ishmael stays squarely on topic for the whole chapter, such a thing has almost never happened, but it isn’t the feast of direct philosophical references I was assuming. I guess it is just that one off-handed remark from the last chapter, where he calls one head Locke and the other Kant. I remember a lot about Kant from my philosophical studies, but little about Locke, so I couldn’t expand much on that anyway. Continue reading “Chapter 74: The Sperm Whale’s Head—Contrasted View”

Chapter 73: Stubb & Flask Kill a Right Whale; and Then Have a Talk over Him

Man, what a chapter title.

After so many chapters titled “The [noun]”, we get an old fashioned summary, like this is a danged penny dreadful or dime novel. Also, apparently hunting a whale is now a single-chapter affair, or half a chapter, as we’ll soon see. The real focus is on the eponymous Talk.
