About Me

Hi there!

My name is Robin VanGilder, the creator of and, thus far, sole author of this blog.

Biographical

I was born in Seattle back in 1989, and have lived here all my life, excepting a couple of sojourns to Bellingham and Ellensburg for college. I recently moved from my beloved West Seattle down to the quiet suburb of Auburn, for work.

My pronouns are he/him, and my sexuality is private.

This Blog

I started this blog as a place to host writing I was doing for fun, on various topics, and also my Moby Dick chapter-by-chapter reflections.

The majority of content on here is that Moby Dick stuff, but there are a few philosophical posts and video game reviews thrown in as well. You can browse the categories using the links in the navigation bar at the top of the page, though they’re a bit messy.

I don’t really post on a consistent schedule, but I try to put up one or two things a week. When I’m in school, that tends to disrupt things. I apologize in advance for any unplanned breaks.

Professional

I worked at the Pike Place Market until earlier this year, when it was temporarily shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I sold paintings at a craft stall, working directly with the public.

The view I used to enjoy every single day at work.

It was fun, but now I’m looking to move into web design, and am currently working on an associate’s degree in that subject at Seattle Central College. You can find my professional website over at RTVGilder.com.

I recently got a job at a technical consulting company down in Auburn, called Praece Consulting. I’ve been enjoying this job a lot, and I still can’t really believe that my plan to go back to school and start a new career actually worked. But, it really did.
