Chapter 129: The Cabin

Oh man, it has been far too long.

I can only beg your forgiveness, shipmates. I have been overwhelmed with stress in my life in recent months, and thus have not found the fortitude to continue this project, preferring to distract myself with video games and movies and other amusements. But now, many things have been resolved, and I may once again take to the sea and do some deep thinking about whales.

Games of the Year 2024

Well, it’s that time again!

Getting to it a little late this year, I’ve been busy lately. Have been back at work, and trying to figure out some logistics around improvements to my apartment. Still muddling through that, but I wanted to take some time and reflect on the year of games, as is my custom. Even though, like, I do not actually write about games at any other time of the year on this blog. And, indeed, have not updated at all for the past month or so!

Chapter 128: The Pequod Meets The Rachel

Where does the time go?

I can’t believe it’s late November already. Well, I suppose the time around the election was a bit warped, to my perception, but still. I feel like I’ve hardly had time to catch my breath lately, one thing or another going on. But this weekend, I had some time to myself, got a little caught up on some other reading, and on relaxation. So, I find myself once again in a mood to reflect upon some proper lit’rature. Let’s get to it.

Chapter 127: The Deck

Well, I’ve had quite a week, as have many of my fellow Americans, I would reckon.

There was about 24 hours where my heart was seized with despair and rage in a way that I have never experienced before, or at least not in a very long time. But I was able to channel that in some productive ways and otherwise burn it off, feeling resigned and determined now. The less said about events on the national political stage, the better.

Chapter 126: The Life-Buoy

Blehh, I’ve got my first cold of the fall season.

Thankfully, it’s not a bad one. Just enough to give me a bit of a snuffle and make me feel more tired than usual. It’s very annoying, honestly. Not bad enough to take time off of work, but I still don’t want to go out except when it’s necessary, and I still feel worse than usual when I am at work. Ah well, could certainly be worse!

Chapter 125: The Log and Line

What’s my line here? Ah yes: let’s get back to it.

Well, I missed a couple weeks again, so it goes. I’ve been busy and exhausted, mentally and physically, the past couple weekends. I desperately need a vacation, to tend to business in my apartment, and in my own mind and body. I’ve got one scheduled in a couple weeks, right after Metaphor comes out, hopefully I can regenerate myself somewhat.

Chapter 124: The Needle

Hoo, I think I’m finally in the clear.

From the summer heat, I mean, though the season doesn’t technically end for a few more weeks. It’s been awfully muggy here lately, and we had a couple last days of unbearable warmth, post-labor day. Ugh, it was right when I was working from home too, nearly melted into a puddle at my desk during a meeting, where I had to have my headset on. Anyway, I must apologize for missing last week, I was overwhelmed with Emotions after getting back into an old hobby. Perhaps I’ll write on it another time.

Chapter 123: The Musket

I’ve been re-energized.

Last week, I was in too bad of a mood to write my post. Some things going on that weekend just threw off my whole vibe, I couldn’t get in the right headspace for writing. Things improved significantly through the week, though. Starting to get back into an old hobby of mine… but, in a careful way. It’s a trading card game, and those can be a real money sink if you’re not careful.

Chapter 122: Midnight Aloft.—Thunder and Lightning

Ahhh, it’s amazing what a shift in the weather can do.

And also just getting out of the apartment, I suppose. We had some awful hot, muggy weather the last few days, but today is nice and cool again. Went for a walk around the city, got some teriyaki for lunch. I feel like I’ve spent too much time since I moved cooped up in here, between being sick and the weather. I’m no longer in inhospitable Auburn, but a proper city! There are so many places to go and things to see.

Chapter 121: Midnight.—The Forecastle Bulwarks

Alright, enough! Let’s get back to it.

I apologize for missing last week, I had a good ol’ fashioned case of writer’s block. Ther weather was fine, I wasn’t too tired, just sat down and… no words came out. It happens to the best of us. I know that forcing it is futile, you might get a couple piddling paragraphs, but they won’t be any good. Of course, some of those times I’ve been most disappointed in my own work was when I would end up receiving very good grades from teachers, so perhaps I’m not the best judge after all.
