Let’s Play FFT 09 – Let’s Become Heretics!

Uff da, left another one to the last minute.

I’m finishing this up and writing this post on Saturday evening! Really want to get ahead on these, but oh well. As long as I get it up at all, I’ll call that a victory. This is just a hobby, after all.

This time, we’re delving into the depths of Orbonne Monastery, and the secret history of the Church of Glabados. Specifically, its founder: Saint Ajora, the extremely obvious Jesus analogue. We read a very spicy heresy about him, and Ramza loses whatever was left of his faith in the church, as has everyone who has read this particular document. Which now includes you and me! Well, I suppose I never had any particular faith in Saint Ajora before this.

Making an LP of a JRPG is always a tricky proposition. I spend the whole back half of this episode running around doing errands and a few random fights. How much of that should be shown? It’s very easy to stick most of the grinding off-screen in this game, but it is fundamentally a part of the game as it is experienced.

It certainly wouldn’t be true to the experience of, say, Chrono Trigger if you just skipped all the battles between the beginning and ending of a dungeon. That’s just the game! It’s more than the story content. What is even the point of putting these out or watching them rather than reading a summary if you’re not going to experience it?

Well, I try to strike a good balance. I’m not gonna record myself retrying the same random battle 20 times to be able to recruit a super rare pig monster, but I will show me reaping the harvest.
