Posting this LP so slowly has a bit of a surreal feeling to it.

The first ten episodes were all recorded basically daily, one after another, because I was on vacation and was having a ton of fun playing the game and recording. But now that I’m back at work, I no longer have the time or the energy for it. Like, yes, technically I have hours and hours after I finish work, but I don’t wanna stare at a screen thinking. That’s what I do at work all day!
This week, we get into the plot of chapter 2 proper, involving some betrayal and desperate flight. Moving to the southern peninsula of Lionel, they find respite with the lord of those lands. Also we send the troops off to do a bunch more errands and read some interesting world-building rumors.
I really love the errand system in this game, it does a ton of work to make the world feel more lived-in. If anything, it’s something I’d want to see expanded and made more detailed in other games, but it was never really picked up by anyone. I suppose it is kind of a lack of gameplay, when you get down to it, but somehow it just feels so expansive.
Like… putting things outside of the view and control of the player can be a very powerful tool. I think it’s generally seen now as something you should never do, because you’re making interactive art, so people want to interact with it. This is part of the magic of this game, and games like King of Dragon Pass, where it lights a fire for your imagination to carry forward and expand the world that the game is hinting at, but not showing directly.
