Alright, got another one o’ these ready to go.

I think I’m gonna make sunday my usual upload day, get on more of a regular schedule. I was so eager for the first one, I didn’t even think about it. I’m on vacation this coming week, so I’ll probably go and record several episodes, so I can have a buffer and actually get them out consistently on time! What a concept!
You will notice some definite improvements to the video this time. In particular: the right and bottom edge are no longer cut off, the intro transitions smoothly into the video instead of an abrupt cut, and the sound quality is better. No more popping P’s, I got a mic with a screen on it now. Also got some proper editing software, called Shotcut.
This one definitely went smoother, I wasn’t as… frazzled. Though I do still have trouble staying on topic, I’m just too excited to talk about too many different things!
Got into some fun tangents this time, talking about like… the impact this game had on me, specifically. I’ll talk more about that later, of course. I’ve been trying to remember when exactly I played it… I know I got the greatest hits version, so it was probably around like 2001 or 2002.
References
In the video, I referenced the trouble that Japan faced after fighting a defensive war. I was specifically thinking of the 13th century invasions of the Mongols. The invasions failed, the first one was hard-fought, while the second was mostly foiled by a typhoon sinking most of the Mongol fleet. In the aftermath, there was a lot of unrest in Japan because there was no new conquered territory or loot. It caused a big uptick in piracy in the seas between Japan and China.
I also referenced the Autobiography of Götz von Berlichingen, which I’ve been reading recently. It’s actually pretty readable, and is really fascinating if you’re interested in medieval Europe. He was also probably the inspiration for Guts from Berserk, as he also had an iron prosthetic hand, did not slow down his military career one bit. He participating in many kidnapping of various people, and was himself held at ransom for years at a time, on several occasions.
If you want some more in-depth information about this game’s more obscure mechanics, RPGSite put up some good ones, including a breakdown of all the jobs and how the zodiac sign mechanic works. I will continue resolutely ignoring that one.
